Flying Fish

Maya: "I am not a woman!"
Ethan: "Yes, you are!"
Maya: "No, I'm not, I'm a flying fish! Remember?!"

Hysterical! But on the other hand, what?!

Fun Times Cottaging

A yoga student and friend of mine, John Fitzgeral, invited us up to his cottage for the afternoon on Saturday. We had a blast! Boating, waterskiing and tubing and then playing on the trampoline! Lots of fun for everyone.

His family were excellent hoasts. His 2 teenage boys, Jake and Eric, really hit it off with our family and took to the kids... it really was a highlight to our summer.

Here are some pictures from the day. :-)
I'm still bruised and soar from being thrown from the tube so often, but for all of the fun we had, it was entirely worth it :-)

Green Smoothie Recipes

Hello everyone.  I've decided to post some of our yummy green smoothie recipes.
We've been spreading the word (ever since we read the book "Green for Life") and many of you have been interested, so here they are.  And remember that mixing and matching is a good thing. You will never get bored if you keep the greens and fruits diverse.  :)

1-2 big handful of Spinach
2 Bananas
1-2 Cups of Strawberries
2 Cups of Water ... and Blend on "Liquefy" setting for approx. 15secs.

1-2 big handful of Field Green lettuce mix
1 Banana
1 Cups of Strawberries or Raspberries
1-2 Cups of Pineapple
2 Cups of Water.. and Blend as above.

1-2 handful of Kale
1 Banana
2 Cups of Mango
1 Cup of Raspberry and/ or Pineapple/ or Peach
2 Cups of Water.. and Blend as above.

6-8 Romaine Leaves
1 Banana
1 Orange
1 Cup of Red Grapes
2 Cups of Water.. and Blend as above.

1 Stalk of Celery
1 Banana
2 Cups of Blueberries
2 Cups of Water.. and Blend as above.

** make sure to cut up all of your greens and fruits to maintain good health of your blender.
**also, I like to use Organic greens and fruits every chance I get to ensure rich nutrients (vitamins and minerals).
**and, last thing, if you have fresh fruit use it, but frozen fruit makes for a nice cold smoothie, so maybe mix it up between fresh and frozen.

making up for lost time

so it's been a while...
and a whole lot has changed. in fact, we've made a few big leaps ourselves...
Amanda and I are teaching yoga. Amanda is starting up a daycare. I'm getting ready to go back to school full-time. I'm going to get my B.Ed. So, my last day in the office was the last day of July... I'm not missing it, yet, but it was a good job... although I'll definitely miss the paychecks.
That being said, I'm slowly decompressing and reconnecting with the kids...
A few of the reasons for the shift in careers:
1-always wanted to be a teacher
2-want to understand my kids better and have a better connection
3-want to have the same schedule as the kids. i don't want to just spend a couple of hours with them, after work, before they go to sleep, year round...
So, I'm excited.
The plan is to teach the same level that they are in... so when they move up to high s
chool, so will i. when they are done, I'll probably start teaching in prisons. I also hope to get my Master of Ed, in the meantime... and then start doing research in Education.
Now, onto the kids...
Dharma's getting bigger and understanding so much -- much more than he is letting on ;-)

He's got his own sense of humour. He also is
able to make space for himself among his siblings... we never have to worry that they are taking advantage of him... he's a tank compared to the other two.

Ethan, on the other hand, can be a bit of a grandmother, no offence to the grandmother's reading this... but he's barely 6... and man, som
etimes motivating him or explaining to him things are not as dangerous or bad as he imagines, can be a bit of a challenge...

but does also know how to have fun...
while we were at the Renfrew cottage, he did catch and release fishing (the only kind for vegan children :-) and caught his first fish and was so excited... he then caught 4 more. he was so exhilerated :-) Kind of like how he gets about his lego... very empassioned.
He's also the perfect older brother. Well tempered and cautious.

Which is very important, since he has a sister like Maya. She's the adventurous adrenaline junkie of the group.
She's also a girlie girl... it's always a challenge to get her out of a dress and into pants, so that she can do the activities, like parks and bike riding that she loves so much...

Finally, here's a shot of the 3 of them together... and once again i'm having problems with blogspot, so i'll have to post again (soon, i promise) to get some more pictures and stories up...
